The days of living with unsightly veins on your legs or face are finally over. Exciting new advances in cosmetic laser dermatology can now virtually eliminate those veins for good! At North Okanagan Skin & Laser we treat veins using a laser which is specifically designed to diminish the appearance of small leg and facial spider veins or deeper blue veins which can be caused by pregnancy, genetics, hormones or aging. The laser light is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the vein causing photocoagulation of the vessel. After the treatment, an improvement is apparent immediately. In the coming weeks, the vessel continues to slowly dimish as the body absorbs it into the bloodstream. Redness and some mild swelling may occur after the treatment but typically lasts 12-24 hours. Unlike sclerotherapy, there are no needles when treating veins with laser, only a mild prickly sensation. To ensure client comfort, we use a cold air chilling unit during the treatment and cool gel packs afterwards.
